I’ve been wanting to experiment with full spectrum photography for a while, but with converted cameras being hard to come by in the used market and conversions running ~$400, I was left looking for alternatives.
It’s no secret that I’m a loyal Fuji shooter, however their use of soldered components makes conversions a risky operation. I stumbled across an article discussing open source firmware that allows Canon Powershots to shoot in RAW, and how easy the conversion process is on these models.
While there is no guide available for a G1X MKII conversion, I had assumed it would be similar to the MKI, which LifePixel has a guide for. The biggest difference was the sensor being glued into place. This was only a minor setback, I was able to chip away most of the glue in large peices.
While I do not have cut filters yet, below are a few examples post-WB.

Very pleased with the image quality given the size and cost

It’s also fairly easy to WB out all effects of the conversion, while benefiting from the additional available light
